Ignatius Kilage (1941-1989), Ombudsman and Governor-General. Kilage was born in Mandime, Chimbu District, and educated in the highlands at Catholic mission schools. He was ordained a Catholic priest and served in the church in the highlands for seven years. He later moved to Port Moresby and joined the Public Service. Kilage became the first Chief Ombudsman of the Ombudsman Commission from 1975-84 and Governor-General in 1989. He has written a novel – My Mother Calls Me Yaltep.
