Cassowaries in Papua New Guinea

All three known species of this very large flightless bird are found in Papua New Guinean. They are hunted and in some places young birds are captured and kept in pens until maturity. The meat is eaten, the feathers used for decoration, and the claws and bones for parts of weapons and tools. They play an important part in many myths.
